Renault Lodgy Performance & Price
Renault Lodgy Overview
The slab-sided Lodgy is no looker and is an MPV that puts practicality above aesthetics. Its low floor allows easy access into the cabin while all-round visibility is good. The cabin is neatly done but isn’t what you would call rich. Space and comfort in the first two rows are fine, though the option to slide the middle seats is missed. Even so, the third row is adequate for two adults. It’s just that the last row’s knees-up seating position is awkward. The Renault gives the option to split and fold, or even entirely remove the third-row seats to make serious room for luggage.
The base Lodgy’s 85hp, 1.5-litre diesel motor is surprisingly adept and incredibly efficient. The 110hp version, on the other hand, doesn’t feel completely alert at low speeds but offers plenty of go for highway driving. A heavy clutch is sadly part of the package and the Lodgy’s steering isn’t the lightest, either. What the Lodgy does do rather well is smoothen bad roads. High-speed manners are also very good, making the Renault MPV a capable long-distance machine.
Renault Lodgy Exteriors
The newly launched Renault Lodgy has a boxy body structure that makes it look massive and is endowed with some stunning styling features which make it unique. It comes with a distinctly designed massive front grille with a huge dollop of chrome garnish for an aggressive front face. The huge grille is flanked by comparatively small but stylish headlight clusters that add to the vehicle’s toughness.
It gets dual tone bumpers, round shaped fog lamps with chrome surrounds, a petite bonnet, boxy but stylish side profile with character, ski racks, body colored ORVMs and door handles, and attractive alloy wheels while the lower variants get steel wheels. The vehicle’s rear gets eye-catching and unique arrow shaped tail lights, a humongous tailgate which is made attractive despite its size with a chrome décor and embossed ‘Lodgy’ logo.
Renault Lodgy Interiors
The Renault Lodgy is based on the same platform as the Duster, so many inherent qualities of the Duster are shared here. To begin with, it is one of the easiest vehicles to get into. The seat height is perfect, neither low nor high. This is helpful to elderly people a lot. In fact, accessing the third row is also not very cumbersome. The third row is very spacious and can seat two adults quite comfortably.renault-lodgy-boot-space The Lodgy is a very spacious vehicle and extremely practical too. The third row seats fold forward to allow a huge boot space 1861 litres. With the third row in place, the boot space is still 207 litres and can pack in weekend luggage easily. There are tray tables for the second row passengers, adding to the utility. There are a lot of cubby holes and storage space in the Lodgy. The dashboard has a huge storage cavity with a flip-up lid. This can take in a lot of stuff.
Though the Lodgy is a great car for weekend getaways and touring, it is also a very practical city car. It has a tight turning radius of 5.5 meters. The car also comes equipped with reverse parking sensors and camera, which makes parking this long vehicle a breeze. With a high ground clearance of 174mm, the Lodgy hardly has any limitations.
The Lodgy is undoubtedly on of the most comfortable MPVs available. In addition to great space, the vehicle has a brilliant suspension setup. It is well-balanced and provides a comfortable ride experience to all passengers. Though it feels a tad stiff at very slow speeds, It settles well as speeds increase. The slight stiffness is to prevent it from excessive pitching and rolling, given its tall proportions. It takes to bad roads very well and keeps occupants away from jerks. We drove over some really bad patches and broken road conditions and the Lodgy handled all of it with great composure. The handling is nothing short of confidence inspiring. The Lodgy holds on to roads pretty well and and has sharp steering response.
Renault Lodgy Transmission
Even the engine is very punchy and a reliable unit, taking 14.33 seconds to do the 0-100 km/hr sprint. We started driving the Renault Lodgy from Gateway of India and headed towards Marine Drive. Experienced some traffic on the way since it was a Saturday and got to experience the clutch which is neither light nor heavy. The steering, though, feels pretty light at city speeds and it continuously gives good feedback. Even though the Lodgy is a long car, manoeuvring it isn’t that cumbersome once you get used to its length. For more details on Lodgy check Cmap
After a quick stopover for some photos, we headed towards the Bandra-Worli Sea Link where we got to experience the Lodgy Stepway at speeds up to 80 km/hr (speed limit!!). Must say, the engine is really well tuned and Renault has done a good job of reducing the effect of the turbo lag. The oil-burner feels punchy 2000 RPM onwards and there is grunt till 4000 RPM. I can easily say that the Lodgy can effortlessly munch miles for hours without any fuss. I’m sure you want to know the fuel efficiency, which is a claimed figure of 19.98 km/l, and ideally, should give you 13-14 km/l under mixed driving conditions.
Renault Lodgy Driving
The tyres have decent grip for regular usage and you won’t have a reason to complain unless you would want to push your car across every corner you see. The suspension is extremely well tuned and hence the ride is fantastic. Even the handling characteristics are good by MPV standards. In fact, the Lodgy is one of those few MPVs which doesn’t drive like one. The brakes are again pretty decent and there shouldn’t be a reason to complain on that front as well.
Renault Lodgy Safety
The Lodgy is fitted with ventilated disc brakes at front and drum brakes at the rear. The MPV is laden with many safety features including dual airbags, ABS, EBD, side impact protection beams, rear parking sensors, door ajar warning, driver’s seatbelt reminder, impact sensing automatic door unlock, rear defogger and more.

Renault Lodgy Final Thought
The Renault Lodgy is one of the most under-rated cars in the mass-market segment. It is priced reasonable and offers excellent practicality, comfort and driveability. While the base variants of the car are popular in the fleet market, Renault is now targeting private buyers and with the launch of the Stepway variant, the Lodgy gets a premium touch as well, which makes it one of the stronger offerings in the MPV segment.
